Modular vs Manufactured Homes

Updated: Dec 3, 2020

All systems built housing is not the same. Manufactured homes, formerly known as ""mobile homes" are built according to the HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) building code. The HUD Code, unlike conventional building codes, requires manufactured homes to be constructed on a permanent chassis.

Modular homes however are built according to the International Builder's Code ("IBC") code and conform with all local and state building requirements. In fact modular homes are indistinguishable from conventional, "stick-built" construction.

Also, since the individual modules are transported to the construction site on trucks, modular homes are built stronger and have greater wind resistance than traditional housing.
